Last Run Before Marathon and Chickens

I saw chickens again!  Last spring I spied these chickens in the same spot as today and I haven't seen or heard from them since.  I didn't know if they were still laying eggs or ended up as part of a chicken noodle soup!  Now to be fair to the chickens, I usually am wearing my headphones listening to tunes as I jog by so they could be clucking away and I might have missed it.

Also out in force today were Christmas trees being carried home on top of cars and one reindeer costumed car.  A nose for the grill and antlers for the windows!  It was an entertaining 3 mile jog completed in 38:40.1 minutes.  Unfortunately, my IT Band hurt throughout the jog.  It's worrisome for Sunday.  On the other hand, I'm very excited for the marathon to finally be within my reach.

3 Miles on Treadmill

Monday I saw Dr. Andersen, my sports medicine doctor, and he gave me a cortisone shot in my left knee.  Hopefully, I'm good to go for the marathon.  I was able to run 3 miles today with very little pain in my IT Band and it should improve even further.  Tracy and I "treadmilled" together at the YMCA this morning.  I ran 3 miles in 37:39 minutes.

6 Mile Marathon Training Run

One week from today is the Seattle Marathon.  I hope the weather is as pleasant to run in as it was today.  The sun shone brightly in the blue sky though the air temperature was a chilly 30 degrees.  I dressed in a running jacket and thick mittens.  I took the mittens off after the first couple miles.

Today I ran 6:09 miles in 1:20:10.  Again, I sound like a broken record, I had problems with my IT band.  I ran the Jennings Loop, Jennings Nature Park, and the neighborhood behind Parkview Estates.  I haven't been back there in a while.  Every time I encountered a downhill grade, which wasn't often on this route, I slowed down or walked.  It helped the pain.  I also tried to remember to do 50 paces on each side of the scissor walk Dr. Andersen (sports medicine doctor) recommended at each mile.  It does seem to somewhat ease the pain.

4 Miles

Jennings Nature Park
Today I ran 4 miles in 52:37.6 minutes around the Jennings Loop.  I struggled with significant IT Band pain for the first mile and a half.  The pain settled down and I was able to enjoy the rest of my run.  It was a beautiful day to be outside.  Maybe a bit cold, since the temperature was 34 degrees, but the air was crisp and you could see snow covered mountains in the distance.  A lovely day to be outside.

Treadmill with Sue

Today's workout consisted of a treadmill run at the YMCA with Sue.  We chatted on our side by side treadmills.  Tracy was missed today because she was under the weather.

I jogged a slow 3 miles in 43:22 minutes.  My IT band hurt the entire time, but it wasn't an intense pain like Monday.

10 Miles

Today was a rough day for my IT band.  I think I re-injured it during the downhill portion of Friday's run.  All weekend I was in pain so I put off the 10 mile run.  Today I got on the treadmill and felt immediate, sharp, intense pain in my knee from the first jogging steps.  I walked almost the entire 10 miles.  The time today was 2:41:22.

More Hill Training for the Seattle Marathon

Today I accomplished additional hill training in preparation for the Seattle Marathon.  I jogged 4 miles in 47:58.3 minutes, up Highway 528 until it intersected with Highway 9, with an elevation gain of 461 feet!

Hill Intervals on Treadmill

Tracy and I were on side by side treadmills today at the YMCA.  She did her walking/running intervals and I did a Hill Interval program, Level 10, 4 mph, on the treadmill.  I accomplished 3 miles in 45:09 minutes.

20 Mile Marathon Training Run

Today I ran from Snohomish to Arlington on the Centennial Trail.  I can't say it was easy or pain-free but I accomplished it.  We drove to downtown Snohomish early this morning so I could start my run.  4:16:28 and 20 miles later in Arlington I was finished.

Mark was a wonderful support person.  He drove to the different trailheads on the Centennial Trail and supplied me with Gatorade and GU packets.  I didn't have to worry about carrying any extra weight of liquids.  Also my race belt is too small to carry the amount of GU and Shot Bloks I needed.

I saw a mother and baby deer at mile 18.  I was able to take a picture of the fawn before they both ran off.

The 20 mile run today was very important.  I needed it to prove I would be able to do the marathon.  I had a disastrous 18 mile run, due to the fact it was split up between a half marathon and my nutrition was off.  Today's run wasn't the confidence builder I had hoped, but I did complete it.
