YMCA with Tracy and Sue

Wednesdays at the YMCA are turning into quite the social hour.  Tracy and I have been going to the Y on Wednesdays for a while now.  Yesterday I invited Sue along.  Today, the three of us lined up, side by side, on the treadmills.  The hour long treadmill time normally goes quickly talking to Tracy, but adding Sue into the conversation made the time seem even faster.  I have my fingers crossed Sue will want to continue with us and get her own membership to the YMCA.  Maybe we'll become the Treadmill Trio.  hmm maybe another name... previous one sounds lame...

Today's workout was 3 miles ran at 4.5 mph pace.  I did a long 10 minute warm-up and 5 minute cool-down.

Snohomish River Run Half-Marathon and 5 extra miles

Friday morning I drove to Endurance Sports NW for packet pick-up/expo.  They called it an expo but there were only 4 tables.  Anyway, it was located very close to Harbour Pointe Blvd in Mukilteo where we lived for 2 years before we built our house.  It was fascinating to drive there to see how built up the area has become.

The half-marathon day started out early with raindrops falling loudly and steadily on the rooftop.  We haven't had rain for a few weeks so this was a bit disconcerting.  I wasn't too worried about running in the rain, only about how it would affect my costume!  I drove to Vinnacios Coffee to meet up with Sharon Smith, Laura Weir, Catherine Oehler, and Dana Mulligan.  I was asked to drive since I had a minivan.  Sharon provided the parking pass.  We took a couple of pictures and then were on our way.  The Snohomish River Run Half-Marathon was located in Everett along the Lowell Snohomish River Road.  I didn't even know this road existed.  It follows the river into Snohomish.  It only took us 10 minutes to get there but we had to be there an hour early because the road would be closed due to the marathon.

The rain had slowed to only a slight drizzle and completely stopped throughout most of the half-marathon.  The course was flat and followed the Lowell Snohomish River Road out and back for the first 10 miles.  The last 3 miles were on a scenic paved riverfront trail.  It was a bit boring, but the time sped by quickly.

Wearing a costume was delightful.  I received many comments and smiles about my hat.  It was a great conversation starter.

I went out too fast at the beginning and was slowing down by the end.  I took a lot more walk breaks.  I'm really surprised I did this, because I thought I was getting pretty good at negative splits in training runs.

I had a nice time on this run but I prefer to do larger and/or more scenic runs.  I really like the entertainment and cheering on the bigger runs.  The scenery was a two lane road with a train track on one side for 10 miles.  The paved path was gorgeous!  I did PR (Personal Record) on this half marathon!

When I got home I needed to run 4.5 extra miles to stay on my Seattle Marathon training schedule.  I ended up walking the extra mileage on the treadmill.  My nutrition was thrown off due to the half-marathon and not eating lunch properly.  I hope to do a better job two weeks from now when I do my 20 miler.

Friday Jog

Today Laura and I jogged together again.  We jogged 4 miles on the Centennial Trail in 46:09:7 minutes.

Sharon is still having problems with her ankle so she took the morning off from jogging.  All three of us are planning on doing the Snohomish River Run Race on Sunday morning.  Laura and Sharon are doing the 10K and I'm running the half-marathon.

Urban Adventure #3, Fremont District

Today Terri Hall and I finally had another Urban Adventure.  We placed them on hold for a while due to Sarah's cancer diagnosis and some traveling. Today's adventure started in Gasworks Park where we walked along the Burke-Gilman trail into Fremont.  We visited all the fun tourist area statues of Fremont, Theo Chocolates, a Carnegie Library, and the Troll under the bridge before walking back.  After eating a picnic lunch in the car, we drove to Golden Gardens Park for some more pictures.  All in all, a fabulous day!

8 Miles Training Run

64th Avenue in Autumn Colors
Today I ran 8 miles in 1:39:11 on the streets of Marysville.  It was my Sunday run that was delayed due to a migraine.  It was uneventful, except for a bit of fog.  My new highlighter green shirt made sure I was seen like a for miles!

I did have knee pain starting at mile 7.  Not bad, considering I took NO tylenol before the start of the run. I iced and used my roller after running.

Friday Run on Centennial Trail

Today I ran 4 miles in 45:41:3 minutes on the Centennial Trail.  I decided to run in the north direction for a change and was rewarded with some beautiful falling leaves dancing across the trail.  It was a glorious day to be outside.

I didn't have knee pain today.  There were twinges of it, but nothing significant!  Yeah!  An all around great day.
