Kettle Bells, It's a Good Soreness

Today at Booty Busting Boot Camp I learned Kettle Bells again.  I was the only one who showed up, so I had a personal trainer!  Not too shabby.  I have very sore muscles today, but it's a good sore.

Unfortunately, I found out next week would be the last morning boot camp she teaches for the summer.  It was good while it lasted.  I'm crossing my fingers we will do hand weights next week.  After next week I'll be signing up for the YMCA again to get some cross-training classes.

7 Mile Marathon Training Run

I ran 7 miles in 1:23:58 minutes.  As you can see, I figured out a way of exporting a table from my Garmin watch.  I copied it and pasted it into a Word document and than copied and pasted it again here.  Voila' it worked!  I've been trying to figure out how to do it for months.  Now if I could find a way to do the map.

I don't have to run, I get to run!

My run today was very different.  I took something to the post office and mailed it, so I ran through a section of Marysville I don't normally run in.  Out of my comfort zone, you might say.  If there were less cars and more trees I may have liked it more, but as it was, it wasn't anything I care to repeat.  Unless, of course, I need to mail something again.  I did the mailing at the beginning of the run and finished with a jog around Jennings Loop and through the Nature Park.  All in all, a good day.

Jennings Loop with a Friend

Today I ran the Jennings Loop with Laura Weir, a friend I met in the basebuilders running class I attend.  We had a lovely time chatting while we ran and the time flew by.  We made plans to run next Friday.  She works 4 days a week and has Fridays off, so hopefully this will be the start of many Friday runs.

We ran 3.79 miles in 47:09 minutes utilizing intervals of 3 minutes of running to 1 minute of walking.

Hand Weights

Booty Busting Boot Camp today consisted of strength training.  I utilized 5 pound hand weights during the various exercises Tory showed us.  It is exactly what I was hoping to learn in boot camp.  I can't help but think, be careful what you wish for.  I'm going to be SORE!!!  Tory never teaches the same thing twice, so I hope she does the kettle bells and strength training again, before the end of the series of classes.

Treadmill Run

Today I ran 2 miles on the treadmill in 23:36 minutes.  I forgot to point the fan towards the treadmill so it rather defeated the purpose of a cooling breeze hitting my face.  I didn't realize it at first, and didn't want to interrupt my run so I just lived with it.  Next time, I'll remember to check!

I watched a small portion of the Julia Child's series, The Way to Cook, circa 1989.  I learned different ways to make chicken today.  According to Julia, you use butter and cream!  She is a hoot to watch.  Too bad my waistline can't accommodate all of her recipes, 100% of the time.  I LOVE watching her cook.  Julia Child is my idol and I love watching all of her programs.  I've only watched this series once, a long time ago, so it's all new to me.

First Training Run for the Seattle Marathon

Today I started my formal training for the Seattle Marathon on December 1st.  I love the Seattle Marathon, it is my favorite marathon.  Walking and running along Lake Washington Boulevard, through Seward Park, through the arboretum, and finally towards the Space Needle are my fondest memories of marathoning.  This year I hope to run the entire marathon.  I trained last year for it and sprained my ankle a week before.  I'm crossing my fingers nothing happens to prevent me from completing it.

My training run consisted of a 5.05 mile run.  I accomplished it in 1:00:47 minutes, averaging a 12 minute mile.  I'm rather proud of myself.

This run should have been a piece of cake for me.  Unfortunately, I ate a bunch of cherries beforehand.  My tummy didn't appreciate combining running with cherries.  It made for a miserable few miles, LOL.  I stopped at Jennings Park and felt better.

The weather was cloudy but humid so I ran the last mile on the treadmill in front of the fan.  I've been avoiding the treadmill lately, but it wasn't as boring as I remembered.  It felt wonderful to have the fan blowing in my face during the last mile.

Boot Camp

I attended Tory's Booty Busting Boot Camp again.  This morning I awoke at 5:00am.  I got out of bed before my alarm was scheduled to wake me up.  The timing seemed to work.  I had enough time to take care of breakfast and potty issues before driving Mark to the bus stop.  It only took me 3 weeks to figure it out!

Today the boot camp consisted of different stations with a lot of upper body strength training.  My arm muscles are killing me today.  I'm scared to find out what the next 24 and 48 hours bring as typically sore muscles will be prominent later.  I need to remember, it's good for me.  Every muscle ache is my body getting stronger!

Kettle Bells at Boot Camp

Today I used kettle bells for the first time.  I started out with a 15 lb bell and quickly changed to a 10 lb.  Most of the boot camp class was devoted to exercises using kettle bells.  I have to admit, they weren't bad.  I was scared of hurting myself, but I didn't.  Arms of steel, here I come!

3 Mile Run

I completed 3 miles in 39:54 minutes this morning.  I always walk a portion of the first mile and then run very slowly for my warm-up.  Still, my first half mile was a struggle and it reflected in my time.  Luckily, after the first mile, the run was normal.

A Run Through the Park

Joe, Jeanne, Mark
July 4
Today's run was 3.25 miles accomplished in 41:54 minutes of moving time.  I was out for much longer if you count the time I stopped at the library for a bio break and then stopped again to take pictures in the park.  :)

I tried taking a picture of myself and the flag.  I couldn't get a good one.  I should've just taken a picture of the flag by itself.  I cannot say enough how much I enjoy running through Jennings Nature Park.  I wish it was longer than a half mile!

The picture on the left was taken yesterday at my brother Joe's house in Tukwila.  He had a 4th of July Barbecue.

Boot Camp Exercise Class

I arose this morning at 5:25am.  I have committed to do Tory's Booty Busting Boot Camp Class for the next 8 weeks on Tuesday mornings at 6:30am.  I think I must be crazy.

Tory's class didn't seem as difficult as Ali Vincent's class but maybe because I knew what to expect.  She also didn't have us do the crab walk.  If she did, I probably would have thought it was just as challenging!  She had a lot of strength training exercises specifically for runners so I know it will be good for me.  I'm sure my muscles will be aching soon!  All in all, a good class.
