New Running Route

Today has been a very long day for my BabyBearButler Sarah.  She got a port put in her right arm to make it easier for the chemo drugs to enter her system.  It was scheduled for 9:00am this morning and she was finally done around 3:00pm.  There was an emergency that delayed Sarah's surgery.

At least they gave her ultra cool socks to wear!
While I was out for my jog this afternoon I made a spur of the moment decision.  Instead of turning right onto 67th I decided to cross at the light and go straight on 64th/Hwy 528.  Highway 528 is a long hill so and at towards the top I found a paved trail I didn't know about.  This trail out and back is 1.37 miles.  Not long, but a nice little break from the street.

Hwy 528 has the elevation training I'm going to need if I'm going to complete the Seattle Rock and Roll Half Marathon on June 22nd.  I already paid for the half marathon but decided not to do it because my heart wasn't in it and my jogging has been sporadic in the past few months.  After talking to Alyssa on Monday, I decided to do it.  She pointed out I should not worry about time and I could walk it, if I wanted to.  I should treat it like a fun day seeing the streets of Seattle.  My brain tells me to treat it that way, but my competitive side says, "let's see what kind of a time you can get".

Today's mileage was 4 miles with a time of 50:26 minutes.  Going up the hills was rough, but I flew down them!

Tuesday, May 28th 3.07 Miles

I'm back to running again.  There are too many breaks in my running schedule.  Today was hard to run but when I checked my Garmin watch stats I learned why.  Miles 2 and 3 were 12:15 and 12:16.  I should have run slower since I hadn't run in a few weeks.  Tomorrow I may have to pay for that.  Who knows, maybe not.

My total time was 39:24.  The first mile is always slow because I incorporate my warm-up walk into it.

I found out today I'm going to need a new race belt.  Arggg.  Not good news.  My new Samsung 4 phone is too big to fit into the pocket.  Not a little too big, a lot too big.  I had to run today without a phone.  It wasn't a big deal, but I like to be safe.

3.16 Miles

Today was supposed to be another rainy day.  The weatherman was incorrect.  It was beautiful all day long.  Perfect for running.  I ran 3.16 miles in 40:30 minutes.  I did part of the Jennings Loop and finished with a path through the Jennings Nature Park.  I love running through there.  It's always nice to be off the street on a quiet path.  I even stopped to take a picture today.  I'm officially back to running.  I'm still coughing but the antibiotics should be kicking in soon.

4.25 Miles

I started to run again.  I've been feeling out of sorts and not sleeping well.  I'm still coughing, but decided I need to get out there and run anyway.  I surprised myself and did much better than I expected.  I know I will sleep somewhat better tonight.

The weather was predicted to be rainy and windy.  Lucky for me, the wind was just enough to cool the humid weather and there were only a few sprinkles.  Well, once it did start raining hard, but only for a few minutes.  I ran 4.25 miles in 55:56 minutes.

I didn't want to stop to take pictures during the run since I was on a roll.  I took these pictures of our back deck flowers when I got home.

Back in Marysville

I've been back in Marysville for a week now.  I had to come back because I got sick and couldn't expose Sarah to any germs.  I'm still trying to shake this cough I have.  Luckily, no one else seems to have gotten sick from me.

Today is Sarah's first day of Chemotherapy.  I talked to her a few times on the phone.  I wish I could have been there in person to support her today.  Sarah said the A, B, and V drugs were okay but the D drug really burned going into her veins.  My poor baby bear.  I wish I could do something to make it better.

Sue, Becky, and I got together today to go fabric shopping for chemo cap fabric.  I found a navy blue knit rayon fabric.  We spent the afternoon making a pattern from a purchased cap and then sewing it back together.  Becky is going to come over again and help me make a couple more caps out of the new fabric.

This morning was my first run in two weeks.  I ran 1.37 miles.
