Wig Shopping for Sarah and Short Run

Sarah rockin' the blond look,
she ordered this wig in her natural color.
Sarah and I went to a store called Reflections today.  Sarah was able to find some scarves, caps, and a wig to wear while she undergoes chemo treatments.

I jogged 35 minutes this evening.

Found the Ocean

Pacific Ocean

I jogged 1 hour and 10 minutes today.  The weather today was cloudy and grey.  I was jogging through a beautiful neighborhood and I ended up finding a view of the ocean off a bluff.  Not sure I could find it again because I got lost.

Running in Pacific Palisades, California

Yesterday I jogged in Pacific Palisades, California.  I'm spending time with my daughter Sarah who has just been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  This means I'll be with her on and off all summer supporting her through chemo treatments.  I'm very thankful I'm able to be with Sarah to spend time with her through this difficult spring and summer.

I started my jog off Rivas Canyon Road in proceeded to jog up towards the downtown area.  My GPS could not get a signal so I based my jog on time.  I jogged for an hour.  This horse lives at the house next door.

3 Miles

I ran 3 miles today in 41:11 minutes.

The sun was shining and it was 63 degrees.  I tried to take a picture in Jennings Park next to the flag.  I thought it would be a fitting tribute for the half-staff flags flying for Boston.  Unfortunately, I had some phone camera issues. The phone said a sim card was needed.  I knew there was a sim card there as it had never been removed.  I thought it was mistaken, so I did what every computer/phone ignorant person would do.  I powered the phone off and turned it back on.  Same issue.  I gave up and finished my jog.  When I got home I took the phone apart and looked for the sim card.  Turns out it was half way out of the slot.  I pushed it back in so it's ready to go for next time.

8 Miles

Today I jogged 8 miles in 1:46:33.  My average pace was 13:19 minute miles.  I'm surprised I did so well.  I felt my pace was turtle-slow this morning.

After my run I walked into the house to see the TV with a special news report about the Boston Marathon.  There were two bombs set off at the finish line.  It's so sad innocent people were killed and injured for no reason.  A senseless tragedy.

3 Miles

This afternoon I jogged 3 miles.  I started my run on the Jennings loop and finished on the path through the park.  It took me 40 minutes.  The weather was stormy this this morning with wind and rain so I was thinking of making it a treadmill day.  Glad I waited because the sun peaked out around 2:00 pm and
blue skies can be seen if you look towards the west.  I took this picture at the beginning of my jog on 67th.

12 Miles

Smiling, but tired after running 12 miles.

Today I ran 12 miles!  Wahoo!  Once again, the farthest I have ever run in my life.  And no one was chasing me either.  I did it just because.

I was scheduled to do a 10 mile training run for the Eugene half-marathon at the end of the month.  I thought maybe I would go 11 miles since I did 10 last week.  At the cut-off for 11 miles I felt good so I decided what the heck, go for it, and went for 12.  I have to admit, my legs were tired on the last mile but I'm thrilled I did it.

I proved I will be able to run the entire half-marathon.  I still cannot believe I've become a runner.  I'm not sure when it happened.  Up until a month ago I was planning on doing run/walk intervals for this half-marathon.  I think I'm going to have to reread my blog posts to find out when I became a "runner".

My time today was slow but that is okay with me.  12 miles in 2 hours, 49 minutes.  I averaged 14 minute miles.

April's 5K by the 5th

Today was April's Virtual 5K by the 5th run.  Laura, from the website, is ordering medals we can purchase.  I am signed up for a medal.  I do love my bling.

My run time today was awesome.  34:12.  I averaged 11:20 minute miles.  I was going too fast for me though.  My breathing was labored after the first mile and I had side stitches after 2 miles.  My usual running pace is much slower, more like 13 to 14 minute miles.  I wanted to get a good time in April because next month will be just days after the Eugene Half-Marathon and I won't be able to push the envelope.  You are not supposed to do much running right after a marathon or half-marathon, in my case, to give your body a chance to recover.

A 10 Mile Run and Some Chickens

This morning I forgot to bring wear my Gymboss Interval Timer.  I didn't feel like going back in the house so I decided to walk when I felt the need to walk and jog the rest of the time.  I jogged for the entire 10 miles!  The first time in my life I have ever jogged so far.

During my 9th mile I spied three chickens roaming in a backyard.  A fence section was slightly damaged and you could barely see in the yard, but as I jogged my eye caught sight of the chickens.

My time was 2:19:39.  I was running 13:89 minute miles.
