12 Mile Marathon Training Run

Hurray!  I am caught up to the marathon training schedule.  Only slightly worse for wear.  The body is exhausted as I type this, but the mind is triumphant.

I jogged the Jennings Loop thrice.  The weather was chilly and cloudy when I started.  Between miles 9 and 10 a bright yellow sphere appeared in the sky.  Alas, the clouds decided enough was enough and they took over once more.  There was no sign of rain, which always makes it a nice day to be outside and perfect for jogging.


I tried a new sports nutrition item today.  Clif Shot Bloks.  I have been using Sports Beans for my long runs and they didn't seem to be giving me the energy I needed.  The one I used today was Black Cherry with caffeine.  It worked!  I'm a bit scared about using caffeine on a marathon training run and I want to do more research about it.  But as I said before, it worked!

9:20 Run/Walk  2min/1min
4 miles - water, 6 cubes shot blok
7 miles - 1 cube
8 miles - water, 3 cubes

Happy Valentine's Day

Today is Valentine's Day.  I have a candlelight dinner of Champagne Chicken planned for Mark.  The table is set with our fine china and crystal glassware.  I'm still trying to come up with a centerpiece.  Probably should have thought about it a few days ago. 

The run today went swell.  No ankle/foot problems.  I used the Endomondo program on my cell phone today to record data.  Endomondo stated I ran 2.86 miles and MapMyRun stated 2:92 miles.  I'm going with MapMyRun since it is not using GPS signals.  Anyway, 39:31 min.  I walked occasionally when I felt my breath was too winded.

8 Mles

I'm finally back  to jogging again.  I hurt my foot/ankle in yoga a couple of weeks ago.  After my 5K on February 4th, the pain was back again so I took time off to rest and recover.  It worked because today I did not have any problems.  Unfortunately, it puts me behind on my training schedule.  I was due to jog 12 miles today.  I hope to catch up in the next two weeks.

Ed Asner

This is not running related but it is too cool not to write in my blog. 

I met Ed Asner yesterday and got my picture taken with him. He was at the Edmonds Center for the Arts in Edmonds Washington to do a monologue called Ed Asner as FDR. I found the following write-up about it... Known for his Emmy-winning role as Lou Grant on the The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Ed Asner is magnificent as FDR and delivers a fearless performance of this dynamic and powerful world leader. FDR was known as “that man in the White House,“ scorned by many and admired by most. This one-man show takes you on a journey through FDR’s White House years including the Depression, the steps leading up to WWII and the war years. We met Mr. Asner quite by mistake. My brother Joe was meeting us in the parking lot of the event center two hours prior to the starting time of the show. Needless to say, the parking lot was almost empty. While waiting we saw someone a man and a woman get out of the car and the man looked like Ed Asner. A couple ran up to them and I asked my husband to roll the window down so we could hear. I heard the words Mr. Asner and autograph. In a second I was out of the car. As soon as I got close to him he turns to me and says, "What the hell do you want?" in a gruff but friendly voice. If it had been anyone else I would have been in tears, but it was so what I expected from him. I asked for a picture and he said sure. He was very gracious. I can't believe how incredibly lucky I was to be able to get to meet him. I was in the right place at the right time.

5K by the 5th

Today I completed my 5K by the 5th challenge.  This is month two of the six month challenge.  I completed my miles on the treadmill while watching an American Experience documentary about Henry Ford.

 
My 5K time was 41:45 minutes.  It is a better time than last month but I was running much faster prior to last week.  The trouble is I hurt my foot/ankle in yoga class.  The Downward Dog Yoga position is becoming increasing difficult for me.  I think I'll take this week off from class and see how my foot/ankle feels.

Yoga

Another wonderful day at yoga class.  I got there extra early due to the Wednesday class being filled to the brim.  I certainly didn't need to, although it was nice having a few moments of meditation time.  There was plenty of room today between the yoga mats.  There were only 10 people in class today.  The sun was shining and it was 54 degrees so the springlike weather on the first day of February probably had something to do with it.  It was gorgeous outside with the sunlit skies.

I bought a Gaiam yoga mat sling today to carry my yoga mat back and forth to class.  For weeks I had carried the mat in a tote bag and gave that up because it was too awkward.  I then carried it rolled up, again awkward.  I saw a few people with yoga slings and thought maybe I should make one.  I researched it online and went to JoAnn Fabrics.  It would be just as expensive to buy one as to make one so I bought one at Target for $10.  Well worth the money.  Simple to use and made carrying my mat so convenient.
